CTRL-M (capacitive touch response latency measure) is a device used to calibrate the refresh rate of a touch screen, improving the accuracy of data capture for cognitive alertness tests used by NASA research labs.
The device triggers a fake human touch when a flash on the screen is registered. It uses an LDR to complete the circuit, sinking the capacitance from the surface with a copper pad. This test can then be performed thousands of times a minute.
It can be made using a simple microcontroller and a 3D printer - allowing researchers all over the globe to improve the accuracy of their data capture. Our initial tests saw an improvement from a latency variation of ~120ms down to 7ms.
